Large fire breaks out at Wyberton recycling centre

Fire crews are working to put out the flames.

Fire crews rushed to Wyberton this morning to deal with a large blaze at a recycling centre.

The fire broke out at the Lincolnshire County Council waste transfer site in Slippery Gowts Lane business park area at around 5.30am on Thursday, February 22.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue advised nearby residents and businesses to keep doors and windows closed.

Five appliances used breathing apparatus’ and main jets at the scene. They also used the assistance of an onsite JCB to help put out the flames.

A Lincolnshire County Council spokesperson said: “Contingency plans are in place so there are no anticipated interruptions to recycling household and and trade waste collections.”

There have not been any injuries reported at the time of publishing and the cause is unknown.
