GPs and Anglian Water warn of another bitterly cold weekend in Lincolnshire

People in Lincolnshire have been warned to stock up on medicines and prepare for the possibility of burst pipes ahead of another bout of wintry weather this weekend.

Met Office forecasters have predicted freezing temperatures, rain, high winds and even the possibility of more snow in some areas, brought in by a front moving from the south-west.

A weather warning for snow is in place between 5pm on Friday, March 16, until 9am on Saturday, March 17 in Lincoln and the east of the county.

Forecasters said: “A band of rain and hill snow will increasingly turn to snow to lower levels through Friday evening and overnight into Saturday.

“This band will gradually ease during Saturday morning as it moves south-westwards, allowing ice to form as it clears.

“Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. Icy patches are likely on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.”

North East Lincolnshire CCG issued advice to patients to plan ahead and make sure they have enough medicine in the house.

Local GP and NHS North East Lincolnshire CCG clinical lead for Urgent Care Dr Rakesh Pathak said: “NHS services are under a great deal of pressure and more so when we experience severe weather conditions.

“People who are not in the best of health can be vulnerable to very cold temperatures and there are steps we can all take to be as prepared as possible if the weather turns as nasty as some forecasts are suggesting.”

Anglian Water is also taking steps to pre-warn customers of the risk of frozen water mains.

Snow and in recent weeks lead to burst pipes up and down the UK and left thousands of people and businesses without running water.
