Lincoln RFC first team start with mouthwatering derby clash

Lincoln Ladies start away at Coalville

Lincoln Rugby Club’s first team will begin the new 2018/19 league season with a trip to county rivals Market Rasen & Louth.

Lincoln finished sixth in Midlands Two East (North) last season, while Market Rasen & Louth were relegated from the division above, Midlands One East.

The season opener will see Lincoln head coach Simon Green come up against his former club on September 8.

Green spent five and a half years at Market Rasen & Louth where he won three promotions, four Lincolnshire Cups and one Midlands Shield.

Green, who joined Lincoln in 2015, told The Lincolnite : “Lincoln’s first team fixtures have thrown up an interesting opening fixture against Market Rasen.

“With both sides looking to start well and no doubt seeking to be in the top half of the table this season, it necessitates a fast start.

“The players are looking forward to a great pre-season which will have a much greater emphasis on tempo, endurance and technical proficiency.

Reflecting back at his time with Market Rasen, Green added: “It was a great time working with some excellent players.

“Dean Hutchinson was captain and we worked well together and he was a big influence on the success, a good leader and a good player.”

Lincoln’s first home league match of the season at Longdales Park will be against Matlock on September 15.

Matlock will also be the opponents, this time away in Derbyshire, for Lincoln’s first match of 2019 on January 5.

Green’s men will host Market Rasen & Louth in the final league game of the season on April 13.
