Imps bolster frontline with Barnet striker

He joins Lincoln City on a three-year deal

Lincoln City completed the signing of forward John Akinde on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Barnet.

Akinde made over 150 appearances for Barnet since joining the Bees in 2014 and he has scored 25 or more goals in three of his last four seasons.

The 28-year-old and his family will be relocating to Lincoln and he will be introduced to supporters in the pre-season match against Norwich on Tuesday, July 10.

Akinde becomes Imps manager Danny Cowley’s fifth summer signing.

Cowley told the club’s official website: “It is never easy to sign a player with this type of goalscoring record and John is unique in also possessing all of the qualities that we were looking for in a centre forward.

“He will also compliment our current triumvirate of Matt Rhead, Matt Green and Bruno Andrade.

“This is a big signing for Lincoln City but also a really important decision for John, so we are delighted that he feels his ambitions can be realised at Sincil Bank.”

“There has been significant investment from several clubs already this transfer window and we anticipate a really competitive division this season.

“Therefore, we are really pleased to have completed this signing as we put the finishing touches to our squad for the coming season.”
