Lincolnite of the week: Gill Rodgers – longest serving nurse

Gill has nursed at Lincoln County for over 50 years

The NHS celebrated it’s 70th birthday this week and in that time it has touched the lives of everybody in the country.

But in those 70 years a lot has changed. Medicine and surgery have had huge breakthroughs, hospitals have tripled in size and even the iconic nurse’s cap and gown has been left at the wayside.

At Lincoln County Hospital, there is one nurse who remembers all of the changes; Its longest serving member of staff Gill Rodgers.

Gill Rodgers on the day she qualified as a nurse.

Gill started her career as a cadet nurse in 1968 and for over 50 years has served the NHS in Lincoln.

She is a familiar face for visitors to the hospital and now works as a nursing night co-ordinator.

Gill spoke to The Lincolnite about her life working for the NHS. Past, present and future.
