No injuries in wheat and combine harvester fire

Significant damage to the crop and the combine harvester

A fire which engulfed a combine harvester and 400 square metres of wheat crop in a field near Gainsborough was put out by firefighters overnight.

Black smoke filled the air above the field on Gainsborough Road, Lea and fire crews rushed to the scene with five pumps.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said there was damage to 400 square metres of crop and 100% of the combine harvester.

“It was extinguished using one main jet, eight hose reels and a water backpack.

“The cause was hydraulic pipe on combine overheating and igniting field. No injuries,” they Tweeted.
