GP access extended in Lincoln

Patients will be able to visit their practice on evenings and weekends

Patients in Lincoln can now see a GP on evenings and weekends for routine appointments as part of a new extended service.

The NHS Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has provided the extra appointments for patients registered at its 30 practices as part of the national requirement.

Extended access will be available until 8pm on weekdays and there will be “a number of appointments available at weekends.”

It will be run by a collaboration of select GP practices in the area, so patients may need to travel to another local practice in the area.

Across the area, there will be an additional 122 hours of appointments.

Extended hours appointments are only available for those who pre-book with non-urgent health problems.

Dr Jago Ridout is a GP at Washingborough Family Practice and said that the extended service is a positive for patients in the area.

He said: “Having these extra appointments available at times when many people have finished work mens they hopefully will not have to rearrange their commitments to be able to see a doctor.

“We want to make it as convenient as possible for patients to get the health care they need, when they need it and this extended access should provide that.

“I would encourage patients to speak to their respective practices to find out what appointments are on offer and available to them.”
