Man dies after being hit by train near Grantham

An 18-year-old man has died

An 18-year-old man has died after being hit by a train going between Nottingham and Grantham on Tuesday afternoon.

British Transport Police said that officers were called to Bingham station in Nottinghamshire at 12.35pm after reports that a person had been struck by a train.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended, however, an 18-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“His family have been informed and the incident is not currently being treated as suspicious.”

There are delays to trains running between Nottingham and Grantham after the incident.

East Midlands trains looked to divert trains between Nottingham and Peterborough where possible and they posted updates about replacement buses running between Nottingham and Grantham.

Lines reopened around an hour ago and East Midlands Trains said they were working to rebuild their advertised timetable on the affected routes.

The company expect their normal train service to resume on the affected routes at around 4.30pm.
