Double crash causes A1 mayhem

Not and southbound lanes are now affected.

There are significant delays across two areas of the A1 this morning after two separate crashes.

The first collision happened at around 6am on Monday, October 1 on the northbound carriageway at Great Ponton.

It is said to have involved three lorries and a car.

A section of the northbound road was closed by police, affecting traffic towards Grantham.

Lincolnshire Police warned that there was likely to be delays for much of the morning, however lane one has now reopened at the time of publishing.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “Incident 27 relates to a collision between four lorries, a van and a car.

“No injuries. Carriageway blocked with debris. This occurred on the A1 just past the Colsterworth services. Traffic moving slowly and it was reported to us at 5:50am.”

A second crash was reported by police on the A1 at Great Gonerby just after 8.15am on Monday.

The incident has partially closed the southbound carriageway and a lorry has overturned, causing further issues and delays.

Lincolnshire Police’s force control room Tweeted: “Please be patient and use alternative routes.”

It is not clear if anyone has been injured in either crash.
