“I watched a lorry crash into my garden”

A terrified resident has spoken of the moment a lorry came crashing into her garden.

Lisa Hunter lives in a house close to the A16 in Burwell, near Louth where a lorry crashed on Tuesday morning.

The mother of three heard a screech and opened her curtains to see what was happening.

“I could see a lorry come hurtling towards my house,” she told Lincolnshire Reporter.

“I grabbed my phone and ran out of the house as fast as I could. I wasn’t sure if it was going to explode, so I had to get out of there fast.

“Luckily it is half term so my child wasn’t outside waiting to be taken to school.”

The house is close to Lisa’s heart.

When the lorry crashed into the garden, it tore down her fence and uprooted trees planted by Lisa’s late father.

Now she is calling for drivers to slow down in the area and for traffic calming measures to be put in place.

It collided with her fence.

She said: “It isn’t the first time that this has happened. A lorry crashed into the house almost 12 years ago.

“People ask why I haven’t moved out, but the home has a lot of sentimental value. I have lived here for the past 40 years.

“Drivers need to slow down around here. There are a lot of hills and the road surface is in a bad condition. The speed limit was lowered to 40 miles per hour but nobody drives at that speed.

“We need speed cameras to slow drivers down. We cannot wait until somebody is killed before we do something.”

Officers received reports of the crash at 8.12am on October 23 and closed the road to assess the scene and clear debris. No serious injuries were reported.
