Prices change across Cleethorpes and Grimsby car parks

The full list of price changes

Drivers in Cleethorpes and Grimsby are set to see price hikes at some of the towns’ car parks while others will see a price cut.

Portfolio holder Matthew Patrick told senior councillors at North East Lincolnshire Council that any rises were in line with inflation.

However, he highlighted a series of decreases on car parks which had less demand in a bid to get shoppers into the local high streets.

The plans will see several car parks offer one hour free parking, 50p for two hours after and four hours for £2.50.

Council leader Ray Oxby called the plans a “balanced offer” adding: “We are trying to enhance the town centre offer by incentivising the use of those under-utilised car parks and make the commercial offer more attractive as well as support the growing economy and the market place.”

Among the list of changes, others include:

  • Scrap monthly & six monthly season tickets
  • Reduce the cost of long-stay charges at Grimsby’s Fishing Heritage Centre car park
  • Create £10 weekly tickets for busy Grimsby car parks

Following the meeting Councillor Patrick said: “The main effect for the astute shopper is that some of the lesser known, or used car parks, will see a reduction in costs.

“It’s very competitive even with the private sector,” he added.

“The retail sector is changing at a rapid pace and has seen much challenge from the internet and we’ve got to make sure the parking offer by and large reflects that.”

Councillor Patrick said parking revenue did go into the coffers for maintenance and repairs and that the prices created opportunity to fund those by using higher-demand car parks.

Councillors also agreed to review car parking on an annual basis rather than once every three years.
