Family to hold funeral for Grace Millane today

Thousands have been raised for charity in her honour

Family and friends of Lincoln graduate Grace Millane will attend her funeral today after she was killed on a backpacking trip to New Zealand.

There will be a service held at Brentwood Cathedral at 11:30am on Thursday, January 10 before Grace is buried in Ramsden Bellhouse, a village close to the family home in Essex.

It will be a private day for those who were close to the former University of Lincoln student, where flowers will be laid by the family only.

As previously reported, the 22-year-old went missing during her trip around New Zealand before her body was found by local police as part of a murder probe.

The Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern held back tears as she apologised to the Millane family.

As part of the investigation into Grace’s death, a 26-year-old man was charged and appeared at court in New Zealand.

Her hockey teammates set up a fundraiser in her honour and managed to raise nearly £6,000 in total for two charities.
