Tritton Road has reopened after a five vehicle crash closed it off for a couple of hours.
Eyewitnesses at the scene have indicated that four cars and a lorry were involved in the incident at around 1.30pm.
Fire and rescue crews, police and ambulance crews were at the scene clearing the road of the damaged cars.
The road was closed from the Dixon Street junction down to the university roundabout.
There were no serious injuries in the collision, but three people were taken to hospital.
Drivers experienced extremely heavy traffic in the area and are being advised to find alternative routes.
Responders are also worked to clear a significant fuel spillage and debris.
further to this RTC – please do not try to cut through Valentine retail park to escape the traffic queues – you will get stuck at the other end and will be unable to access Tritton Road from that exit, https://t.co/rzmQ4XOvQN
