Louth farm fire kills 60,000 chickens

Fire crews rushed to the blaze last night

A fire in Louth which killed around 60,000 chickens was sparked by an automatic feeder.

Three different fire and rescue crews in the area attended the blaze at a poultry shed in Scamblesby just before 8pm on Tuesday night.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire with two jets, two hose reels and four sets of breathing apparatus.

They determined that the cause of the fire was an electrical fault on one of the automatic feeders.
