Men pose as police and take women’s car on chase

A group of men allegedly posed as police officers before taking a 68-year-old woman’s car on a pursuit in the Epworth area of North Lincolnshire.

The woman was driving towards Wroot following a white Luton-style van at around 3pm on Tuesday, April 2. A Volvo travelling in the opposite direction then swerved in front of the van and was pushed into a ditch.

The van then made a U-turn and headed back the way it came. The three men in the Volvo then approached the woman’s car and told her they were the police. They asked her to move into the passenger seat and drove after the van towards Westwoodside.

When the van began to drive towards Misterton the driver of the woman’s car gave up the pursuit and drove towards Haxey. He then left the woman and her vehicle in Carrside, Epworth.

A 44-year-old Hertfordshire man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Detectives are hunting a group of men. They want to trace all the occupants of both the vehicles involved and are keen to speak to any witnesses who have not yet come forward.

Detective Sergeant Nicola Burnett, who is leading the investigation, said: “We have already carried out extensive enquiries, working closely with other forces across the country to try and identify all the people involved.

“Fortunately, the woman whose car was commandeered by these men was not hurt in the incident but she could have easily been seriously injured or killed.”
