Police drone helps catch men who ran from crash

Three men were arrested

Three men who ran from the scene of a crash were arrested after being spotted by a Lincolnshire Police drone overnight.

Lincolnshire Police’s Drone Unit said it was “another great result” in Gainsborough close to Torksey after the initial call came into police at 9.19pm on Sunday, June 9.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said a two vehicle collision involving a BMW and a Mondeo estate on the A156 Lincoln Road was reported to them. The driver of the Mondeo fled the scene and after a search a drone was requested.

As a result of a drone search, three suspects, aged between 21 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of drink driving and are still being questioned. There were no reported injuries.

Chief Pilot at Lincolnshire Police Drones Kevin Taylor told Lincolnshire Reporter that the suspects went across fields and were apprehended after a search using the drone at around 10.15pm. Lincolnshire Police Dog Section was also involved in the search.

He said: “The Drone Officer was the first to arrive on scene and this incident shows how the investment in cost efficient technology assists officers on the ground and allows us to search vast areas quickly to ensure we apprehend offenders.”
