Inquest opens into tragic Boston opticians crash death

A clinical cause of death was determined pending toxicology

An inquest has been opened into the death of a woman after a car crashed into an opticians in Boston.

As previously reported, Karen Anne Mercer, 49, from Heckington, was taken to hospital where she later died after a grey Citroen crashed into the front window of the Specsavers Opticians on Wide Bargate during the afternoon of Monday, July 1.

An 80-year-old woman driving the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

An inquest was opened by coroner Timothy Brennand at Boston Coroners Court during the afternoon of Thursday, July 11.

At the short hearing it was heard that the clinical cause of death was believed to be head and chest injuries, pending toxicology.

The place of death was confirmed as Specsavers Opticians at 9 Wide Bargate in Boston.

The hearing was then adjourned until December 12, 2019.

Police enquiries are still ongoing.

Karen’s husband Karl previously released a tribute to his “beautiful wife” saying “a light unexpectedly turned off in my life” after losing his “soul mate”.
