Take a guided tour of Lincoln Cathedral graffiti

Places are limited

One day only! Expert guides will take groups on exclusive tours of the fascinating graffiti which covers the walls of Lincoln Cathedral.

From cavemen to Banksy, throughout history it seems few people can resist the urge to leave their mark on a wall or building, and Lincoln Cathedral is no exception.

The team at Lincoln’s most iconic building said that from the floor to the top of the tower there are hundreds of examples of medieval graffiti.

It’s part of the Festival of archeology

As part of the Festival of Archaeology, on Wednesday, July 17, for one day only Lincoln Cathedral is running a series of guided graffiti tours.

A Lincoln Cathedral spokesperson said: “You can join our expert guides on the hunt for some of the Cathedral’s most interesting graffiti and learn more about some of the people that have left their mark.

“From Norman guards to Victorian tourists, there is a huge range of images, symbols and words etched on to the fabric of the building just waiting to be spotted by the sharp-eyed visitor.

“The tours are free for any one that has paid admission to the Cathedral and will run three times during the day, at 10am, 1pm and 3pm. Each tour will last approximately 90 minutes.”

Places are limited to 10 people on each tour so it is recommended that you book in advance to guarantee a place. You can book in person in the Cathedral or by calling 01522 561600.
