Grantham woman to cycle 280 miles for charity

“My mum Celia was an amazing woman, she will always be my guiding light and inspiration”

A woman from Grantham will cycle 280 miles across Europe for a hospice charity which cared for her mum.

Debbie Wren will set off from London on Wednesday, September 4 making her way through, Holland, Amsterdam, Netherlands and onto Brussels over just four days.

She’s aiming to raise as much money as possible for St Barnabas Hospice, which looked after her mum Celia Mabel Moss after she suffered a stroke and heart failure.

“My mum Celia was an amazing woman,” said Debbie. “She accomplished so much in her life. She will always be my guiding light and inspiration.

“Her first love was gardening, nature, and wildlife. It was a passion that never went until the day she died. I know she loved it when I brought her bunches of daffodils from the garden.

Debbie’s mum.

“When Mum had her stroke, she was only able to communicate by blinking her right eye.

“The nurses just knew how to look after someone who was unable to talk, swallow or move, and I didn’t have to worry that she was left on her own in distress.

“Although it has been two years since mum died, I still struggle each day with an incredible sense of loss. It simply has not got any easier. I will never forget the care St Barnabas provided.

So far Debbie has raised around £1,800 for St Barnabas but she hopes to be able to raise even more by the time the challenge is complete.
