A new glamping site, taking inspiration from a Lincolnshire Wolds historic industry and using a style of accommodation endorsed by a former Prime Minister, has been given the go ahead.
The applicants have said the huts are a reference to wool’s historical importance as a “major source of income for the Lincolnshire Wolds.”
Applicant Mr Johnson said: “We feel passionate about contributing to a sustainable carbon-neutral environment which increases biodiversity.
A masterplan showing how the huts would be laid out at the crest of the hill.
“Research shows people are now looking for an experience, not just a holiday.
“Staying in a shepherd’s hut with stunning views in all directions doesn’t come much better in providing a unique experience.”
Documents submitted to the council included promotional photos of the huts, including one modelled by apparent advocate and former Prime Minster David Cameron in his Cotswold garden.
The huts were described as “jolly nice looking” by the politician in a blog post for producers Red Sky Shepherds Huts.
They will be placed at the top of a crest in a field, in four groups of three, with a single track for pedestrians and emergency/service vehicles leading to them.
The plans will also include a cycle store, a reception building and a communal car park.
Approving the plans, Councillor Stephen Eyre said: “This applicant hopes to provide a high quality destination which will appeal adults who may actually appreciate the beautiful setting and tranquillity.
“This is a particularly important application because it sets a precedent for the high quality inland tourism which is a priority for this council.”
Shepherd’s huts were used from the 15th century dug in sheep rising and lambing. The trade helped fund many historic buildings including St Botolph’s Church, in Boston.
