Signal fault causes severe disruption on trains

All lines were blocked while the problem was being fixed

A fault with the signalling system in Peterborough is causing severe disruption on the railway network.

National Rail warned passengers that all lines were blocked in the town and that it is having a knock-on effect across the east coast mainline.

Trains on the Liverpool to Norwich and Peterborough to Lincoln route are all facing delays.

Disruption is expected to last until 2pm on August 13.

Any services on that route are either being cancelled or being delayed by up to an hour. Some trains have replacement bus services.

East Midlands Trains said that the fault with the signalling system has now been restored.
