Lincoln residents clean up rubbish riddled canal

Great work by the team yet again, it makes a real difference

Around 20 residents spent their weekend clearing rubbish from a Lincoln canal.

Volunteers gathered over 21 large bags of litter, as well as a mattress, plastic chair, scrap metal, and a traffic cone.

The group spent a few hours on Saturday, September 7 cleaning up Sincil Drain and the surrounding area.

It coincides with the work of the Environment Agency, which is also cutting back the overgrown vegetation and reeds in the canal.

Nick Rawsthorne, the group’s photographer, said: “Again, the careless dumping of litter and other object have needed removing by these great volunteers.

“These are all thing that could be disposed of quite easily by the persistent litterbugs.

“Well done to each and every one of you who turned out and gave up your own time, and a special thank you to the US Armed Forces Personnel who again joined us and showed great community spirit – your efforts are much appreciated by local residents.”
