Man named and charged over Cleethorpes rape

A woman was found on the beach in a distressed state

A 44-year-old man has been named and charged by police over the rape of a woman on Cleethorpes beach.

As previously reported, Humberside Police were called just after midnight on Thursday, August 22 to reports that a woman had been found on the beach near to the Central Promenade in Cleethorpes in a distressed state.

Police previously said they believe it to be an isolated incident.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on Friday, August 30, who has since been named as Mohammed Uddin of Augusta Street in Grimsby.

He appeared at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court charged with rape during the morning of Saturday, August 31. He was remanded in custody to appear at Grimsby Crown Court during the morning of September 30.

Humberside Police previously released CCTV footage from the area between 11pm on Wednesday, August 21 and 12.15am the following morning and identified a number of people that they believe may be witnesses.

The photos show a number of cars in the area at the time and police are asking for the people in these vehicles to come forward as they could be witnesses.

However, police do not believe these people were involved in the incident.The force are still keen to trace these people to assist with the investigation.
