Traditional Lincoln chippy launches vegan menu

It’s been drawing people in from across the country

A traditional Lincoln chippy has launched a new vegan menu and it’s been so popular that people are queuing out of the doors.

Carholme Chippy, on Carholme Road, started frying up the plant-based treats on Monday, October 7.

The owner wanted to reflect the traditional options so serves up banana blossom fish, battered tofu fish, vegan scampi, vegan sausages, vegan burgers, vegetable fritters and more.

Nick Avraam, the owner of Carholme Chippy, told The Lincolnite: “It has been going nuts. We never expected to get this sort of response so quickly.

“We have had people coming from Aberdeen and Manchester just to try our vegan food. It is really phenomenal how it has taken off.”

They have lots of vegan options on the menu.

All of the vegan food is cooked separately with vegan-friendly batter, which is then fried in vegetable oil.

Julie Spencer, who has been vegan for 15 years, travelled down from Bardney with her family to try out the new menu.

She said: “Normally vegans just have one or two options when they eat out so it’s amazing to see this full menu. I just don’t know what to choose now.”

The chippy has also started serving hot drinks, including hot chocolate with CBD oil which also comes with a vegan milk alternative.
