Two people injured in frenzied Grimsby knife attacks

Police have increased patrols in the town centre

A man and a woman were injured in two separate knife attacks in Grimsby, causing police officers to increase patrols in the town centre.

Humberside Police launched an investigation on Wednesday, November 27 after a woman suffered knife wounds in an incident at an address on Duncombe Gardens at around 7.40pm. A man sustained knife injuries in a separate incident on Oxford Street at around 7.50pm.

Two men, aged 21 and 45, have been arrested in connection with the incident on Oxford Street.

Police said at this stage they believed the two assaults are linked, but their investigations are ongoing.

Andy Maultby, Chief Inspector at Humberside Police, said: “Incidents of this nature are thankfully rare, however I fully understand how distressing for the local community it will have been, and I want to offer my reassurance that we treating the investigation with the utmost priority.

“Violent behaviour will not be tolerated and will take every action to tackle crime and the causes of crime in our communities.

“We do suspect these incidents have been targeted at the individuals concerned and are not random acts. At this stage, we do not believe the two assaults are linked, although our investigations are ongoing.

“We have made two arrests and have increased police patrols in the area to provide a high visibility proactive police presence. We will continue to be relentless in our approach to tackling incidents of this nature.

“We are also asking for anyone with information to please come and talk to us to assist with the investigation, as your help could prove vital.”
