Lincoln firm to supply drone detection tech at RAF bases

It is a multi-million-pound contract for the tech company

A Lincoln firm has secured a multi-million-pound contract to supply drone detection tech at RAF bases.

METIS Aerospace, based on the Lincoln Science and Innovation Park, will deliver four baseline systems as well as support over the next three years.

When the kit detects the radio frequency signature of a drone, the SKYPERION will alert the operator and locate the drone as well as its pilot.

The Lincoln company also secured a contract with Gatwick Airport in January after drones caused disruption near the runways.

Winning both big contracts has enabled METIS Aerospace to double in size during 2019 and the company believes the next year will be promising.

Tony Burnell, CEO, said: “The year’s achievements are a testament to the hard work and dedication shown by the METIS team.

“After three years of research and development, we are now looking forward to delivering our drone detection capability across the globe.”
