Horncastle church tower collapses with 150 years of history

A fundraising mission to rebuild the tower has now started

A church tower collapsed in Horncastle along with 150 years of history for the town.

High Toynton Church partially fell on Sunday, January 19 prompting a fundraising mission to rebuild the tower.

Police in Horncastle said that there were no injuries to report and added that they would do regular checks of the site.

Some of the pictures from the scene show a huge pile of rubble where a tower and some surrounding gravestones once stood.

Every five years, a church building must be inspected by an architect or chartered building surveyor to make sure that it is in good repair.

Robert Tomkinson set up a JustGiving page and asked for £100,000 in donations to help rebuild the church tower.

Dedicated to St John the Baptist, it was built in 1872 and replace the original 13th century building.
