Lincoln studio to give away free monthly mastectomy tattoos

Giving back to the local community

A tattoo studio in Lincoln will offer free mastectomy tattoos from next month to help people with their confidence.

Purge Tattoo Studios on Hykeham Road in Lincoln has been operating since May 2019 and, after a customer vote on social media, free mastectomy tattoos came out as the top new idea to bring to the business. The top two suggestions won a tattoo voucher, with mastectomy tattoos getting over 90 ‘likes’.

It is still in the planning stages with the first event scheduled to take place on March 28. The aim is to hold an event on the last Saturday of each month with around three to five people winning tattoos, although exact dates are still being confirmed.

The firm has been in contact with the Macmillan charity breast cancer unit asking for referrals for people who would be interested, while customers are also being encouraged to pop in to book an appointment.

The team comprises of three tattooists with specialist areas – Chris Robbo (portraits), Marc Freeman (cover ups) and Daryl Kemp (animals), along with Shayna Ruffle who does all the administration and social media. Chris will initially do most of the mastectomy tattoos and the team are looking forward to starting their community initiative.

Shayna told The Lincolnite: “It feels really good that we area giving back to the community. It’s nice that we have the opportunity to do something like this and help people change their perception of themselves, impacting them in a positive way like tattoo studios should.”
