Scunthorpe man behind bars for ‘nasty’ pensioner robbery

His followed his victim, who was on a mobility scooter, to a cash machine

A Scunthorpe man has been jailed for three years for trying to steal money from a mobility scooter riding pensioner.

Jason Dixon, 25, of Mary Street, Scunthorpe was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to robbery.

The court heard how on August 28, Dixon followed his victim who was riding a mobility scooter on a High Street.

Dixon waited until the elderly man withdrew £150 from a cash machine, asked him for the time and then snatched at the money.

The pair struggled and the majority of the notes were torn before Dixon ran away.

Detective Inspector Vicky Huyton said: “This was a nasty unprovoked attack on a vulnerable member of our society.

“Thankfully the victim was not injured in the attack, but he was left shaken by the experience.

“Dixon now has three years behind bars to think about his actions on that day and the impact that those actions have had on the life of his victim.

“I hope this sends out a clear message to anyone considering exploiting vulnerable people, we will not tolerate it and you will be locked up.”

Dixon was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £180.
