Woman attacked ex with knife, laptop and mop handle for ending relationship

She has now been jailed

A woman from near Lincolnshire has been jailed for over two years for attacking her ex-partner with a carving knife, laptop and mop handle when he ended their relationship.

Carlene Bennett, 31, of Stow Road in Wisbech, met the man in his 60s three years ago and began a relationship, but just weeks after he ended it she visited his place of work on August 7. However, when she found out he wasn’t there she rang him and shouted abuse down the phone, saying: “I will kill you and you won’t know it’s coming.”

Bennett let herself into the victim’s property the next morning while he was taking rubbish to the outside bin. She then confronted him in the kitchen, taking a carving knife from a drawer and swinging it towards him.

The man suffered cuts to his arms, hands and neck as he tried to defend himself. He managed to run to the living room to call for help on the landline, but Bennett followed and grabbed his laptop before hitting him around the head with it.

This caused significant swelling and when officers later arrived at the scene they found the victim with multiple injuries.

The victim thought Bennett had gone and ran upstairs to call the police, but she came back and hit him with a mop handle from the bathroom. After a struggle, he finally managed to get her away from his property and called for help.

Bennett denied GBH without intent but was found guilty following a two-day trial at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday, February 6. She was sentenced to two years and two months in prison.

DC Kevin Poole from Cambridgeshire Police, who investigated, said: “Bennett couldn’t contain her anger that the victim had ended their relationship but her reaction was grossly disproportionate.

“She caused a number of injuries in a vicious and unprovoked attack and I am glad justice has been served.”
