Grimsby footballer fined and banned for racist slur

Midfielder formerly with Imps fined £2k

By Local Democracy Reporter

Grimsby Town midfielder Elliott Whitehouse has been banned for six games and fined £2,000 for using racist language in a game.

The incident occurred back in November 2019, during a League Two away match against Northampton Town.

Whitehouse called Northampton player Alan McCormack a ‘pikey’, a derogatory term aimed at the travelling community.

In a hearing with the Football Association, the player said it was not a term he would ordinarily use and he did not know it was particularly offensive.

He will now undergo an education course that is run by the Football Association to prevent such acts happening in future.

Whitehouse was formerly of Lincoln City, but joined Grimsby in 2018 after leaving the Imps on a free transfer.
