Lincoln Bomber Command Centre wins major tourism award

National acclaim for the IBCC

By Local Democracy Reporter

The International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln has beat stiff competition across England to win a tourism award at a virtual ceremony this week.

The IBCC was chosen by Visit England as the International Tourism Award winner 2020.

The awards show was held virtually as a result of COVID-19, and the IBCC was one of 19 winners on Monday night.

It won the award despite only being open for just over two years, but in that time it has received plenty of plaudits and recognition.

The Earl of Wessex visited the command centre back in 2018 on a royal visit, while Nigel Farage also made an impromptu appearance there last year.

Nicky Van Der Drift, chief executive at the IBCC, described the victory as “amazing”.

“We’ve only been open just over two years and the project has faced a number of challenges all the way along, and this is just such a huge bonus for the team who with dedication and passion have worked so hard.”
