Arrested people released as police admit ‘case of mistaken identity’ in Grimsby

On Wednesday 13 July officers arrested two people in connection with an incident on Crowland Avenue in Grimsby.

Following extensive enquiries, we can now confirm that this was in fact an unfortunate case of mistaken identity.

A 29-year-old woman had been alerted that her daughter had had an accident whilst out with friends and was in the area in an attempt to locate her child.

The 38-year-old man could see the woman was distressed in her search and came to her the aid.

In an attempt to locate the woman’s daughter, the man mistook a 3-year-old girl for the lady’s daughter.

This was a call of good intent, and we would always encourage anybody with any concerns to contact us so we can carry out all necessary enquiries.

On this occasion, we are now satisfied that there were no untoward circumstances involved. They have both been released with no further action.
