Residents have hit out at selfish vandals who have caused £1,000 worth of damage to beach huts on Mablethorpe promenade.

The huts have now been targeted by yobs at least three times over recent weeks, with police conducting a criminal damage investigation.

The camera obscura hut was damaged on June 4, with two other huts damaged at the beginning of May.

Damage to the chalets included broken/cracked windows and doors smashed through.

Concerned visitor Elizabeth Quinney posted on Facebook page Mablethorpe Photo Album: “I love Mablethorpe.

“I’ve been coming here for my holidays ever since I was a child.

“Never known such mindless vandalism before. Love the new chalets and I love the place.”

Lynn Rose added: “We went to Mablethorpe in May and have done for seven years running.

“The council have done a sterling job re-vamping the beach chalets, they look fabulous.

“What a shame selfish [people] want to ruin it for others.”

East Lindsey District Council building surveyor, Scott Ashdown said: “The council absolutely deplores the recent acts of vandalism that have occurred to the Beach Chalets and at Queen’s Park.

“This is mindless vandalism and is unacceptable. The council and Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council have reported all damage to the police.

“We hope the perpetrators will be caught and dealt with appropriately to send a message that this sort of behaviour is not tolerated.”

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “Incident number 109 of June 4 relates to a door that was damaged on the camera obscura hut on Central Promenade.

“Prior to that, there was some damage to two huts at the beginning of May.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
