Football fan tributes after body is found on beach

He had been out with family and friends watching Leeds United

A man who died on a beach in Cleethorpes has been named locally.

As previously reported, the body of a “man in his 30s” was found near to Wonderland on Friday, May 17.

Humberside Police are treating the death as unexplained while investigations are ongoing.

Now locals and family have named Gary Simpson as the person who died.

Gary had been out with family and friends to watch Leeds United in the Championship play off semi final game against Derby.

He is thought to have been split from the group and was reported missing before a body matching Gary’s description was found on the beach.

Police and the Coastguard were both on the scene at the time and put a cordon in place while officers inspected the body.
