Coalition Lincolnshire County Council cabinet named

Lincolnshire County council leader Martin Hill has named the members of his new executive, with one Liberal Democrat in the cabinet following the coalition decision to run the council.

The new Executive will be formally confirmed at a meeting of the full council on Friday May 17, where the following proposed members, their portfolio areas, and support councillors, are set to be approved.

All the members of the executive cabinet at Conservatives, except Reg Shore, the former Lincoln MP candidate and now leader of the Lincolnshire Liberal Democrats and Skellingthorpe and Hykeham South councillor.

• Patricia Bradwell (Deputy Leader) Portfolio for Adult care & health services and Children’s services – Support from David Brailsford and Ron Oxby
• Colin Davie Portfolio for Economic development, Tourism, Environment and Planning
• Peter Robinson Portfolio for Fire & Rescue, Emergency planning, Trading standards, Equality & diversity
• Richard Davies Portfolio for Highways, Transport and IT
• Sue Woolley Portfolio for NHS liaison and Community engagement
• Reg Shore Portfolio for Waste and Recycling
• Barry Young Portfolio for Legal, People management and Crime reduction
• Nick Worth Portfolio for Libraries and Culture

Independents Chris Brewis (Sutton Elloe), Bill Aron (Horncastle and Tetford) and Angela Newton (Spalding West) also entered the coalition, but they did not get a seat on the cabinet.

John Marriot (Hykeham Forum) and Pat O’Connor (Gainsborough Trent) are the other two Liberal Democrats in the coalition.

Conservatives won just 36 seats this year, down from 61 at the last election, losing overall control of the council after the May 2 local elections.

With 16 seats won across Lincolnshire, UKIP will form the opposition party on the County Council, led by Chris Pain.

Rob Parker, leader of the Labour Group on the County Council, has stood down from his role and was replaced by Councillor for Louth South John Hough since the elections.

Councillor Hill said: “I’m confident we have the right team in place to lead the authority through the next four years.

“All the members of the new executive are experienced councillors and I’m sure they will rise to the challenges we’ll face over that time.

“Together, we will continue to build upon the good work that has taken place over the last few years, protecting the services our residents value the most.”
