Crime rate drops in Lincolnshire, with two exceptions

Latest crime stats: The number of crimes reported in Lincolnshire has dropped by 3% in the last quarter, meaning 853 fewer victims compared to the previous year.

The number of crimes reported in Lincolnshire has dropped by 3% in the last quarter of 2013, compared to the previous year — meaning 853 fewer victims.

Burglaries, robberies, criminal damage, violence and injury, anti-social behaviour and road deaths all decreased, but the number of sexual offences, thefts and shoplifting in Lincolnshire went up.

The figures have been released by Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Hardwick as part of the force’s latest quarterly performance update.

What went down

  • All recorded crime is down 3% with 853 fewer crimes (an improving 5 year trend line)
  • Violence (with injury) crime is down 9.5% with 241 fewer crimes
  • Burglaries are down 13.7% with 216 fewer crimes
  • Robberies are down 10.1% with 14 fewer crimes
  • Anti-social behaviour reports down by 18.1% with 3,811 fewer incidents
  • Criminal damage is down 8.1% with 382 fewer crimes
  • People killed and seriously injured on Lincolnshire roads is 365 (Jan – Nov 2013), down 5.9% with 23 fewer victims

What went up

  • Sexual offences increased by 12.7% with 55 more crimes reported
  • Thefts and shoplifting increased by 5% with 443 extra incidents recorded

PCC Alan Hardwick said: “The number of recorded sexual offences continues to be higher this year than at the same time last year. It is thought that successful campaigns such as the force’s ‘No Means No’ campaign may be raising awareness and reporting.

“There has been an increase nationally and this is thought to be partly related to the ‘Yewtree effect’, whereby greater numbers of victims of sexual offences have come forward to report historical offences to the police. I continue to push for improved crime resolution rates in this area.

“The number of crimes relating to other theft/shoplifting has increased in this period compared to the same time last year. The force is actively tackling this issue and I continue to closely monitor and review the situation. Increases have also been seen on a national level.”
