The café and news shop at Lincoln Central railway station has been closed for a total refit.

East Midlands Trains is refurbishing the Caféxpress inside the station, which forms part of a £2 million investment to improve facilities in the building.

Some £2 million of investment will provide a new watiing room, toilets and baby change facilities, coffee shop, mircobrewery as well as restoring parts of the building itself, which is Grade II listed.

The shop has been completely emptied ahead of the refit and a temporary service will be in place from Monday, February 5.

A spokesperson for East Midlands Trains said: “We are improving our facilities at Lincoln Station – the café unit and news shop are being refurbished.

“Temporary facilities will be in place in the waiting room from February 5.”

Lincolnshire Police rushed to Lincoln High Street this lunchtime following reports of a man brandishing a knife.

Officers were alerted at around 11.55am on Friday, February 2 to reports that a man was seen with a knife on Mint Street.

Policing officers located the man, who has now been arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article.

One eyewitness in the area added during the operation that the Age UK centre off Mint Lane was “on lockdown”.

They added: “Police attended an incident in the park. Three police cars are present. Pensioners inside said it was the best entertainment since CSI!”

Another person said they watched as police officers descended opposite Park Street. “He was tasered and a police officer took a large knife off him”.
