City’s second Summer Gala gets underway

Summer fun: Lincoln’s second Summer Gala attracted plenty of visitors this year, with food trade stands and demonstrations.

The Brayford Pool saw hundreds of visitors on July 31 for the return of the Lincoln Summer Gala, despite the initial downpour of rain.

Many gathered to see various local trade stands, competitions, free activities and dance demonstrations spread around Brayford Waterfront, Brayford Wharf East and the University of Lincoln Brayford campus. There were also activities going on in the Brayford Pool, such as boat racing between local clubs and live commentary.

One of the largest attractions of the day were the alternative dance demonstrations by members of the Street Beat Movement Academy (Portland Street). Other than dance lessons such as ballet, Street Beat Movement Academy also teaches Street Dance and Zumba to all ages (videos of both below).

The first boat race of the day was between members of the Lincoln Rowing Club.

The mountain climbing practice wall proved popular with children, especially the tallest wall.

This stall was teaching both adults and children how to draw cartoon animals. Here they are drawing a hungry dog.

Mechanical band provided a musical background to the event.

A vast array of different types of homemade jams were on display, with very colourful lids.
