Top-notch facilities for Lincoln athletes

Keeping track: New outdoor facilities have been added at Yarborough Leisure Centre, making it ‘A class’ standard.

Athletes and those aiming to get fit now have better facilities for all their training needs at Yarborough Leisure Centre, uphill Lincoln.

The track and field facilities saw improvements recently, which led to the new classification as “suitable for national level competitions”.

New facilities include a refurbished running track, steeplechase area, long and triple jump, pole vault, refurbished shot put area, and a throw cage.

The £200,000 improvements, which also include spectator facilities, take Yarborough from the bottom level of ‘restricted’ training to ‘A class’ in all elements.

Refurbishment was done in two stages. The first used funding from City Council, County Council, Active Nation, and Lincoln Wellington Athletics Club.

The second stage, also funded by the City of Lincoln Council, saw the relocation of the long and triple jump, and the pole vault pits and run ups. [Full funding breakdown]

Portfolio Holder for Health and Recreation Councillor Alister Williams said: We’re absolutely delighted that our investment in sports facilities has brought standards at Yarborough up to national competing level.

“The council wishes to encourage more activity in Lincoln’s residents, and we hope that top class facilities like these will raise the profile of sport in the city and help to get more people involved and active.”
