Priory LSST in Lincoln won the Under 16s Lincolnshire County Netball Finals 2010 at their school in the city.
Four school teams from across the county entered the tournament, after competing in the School Sports Association Netball competitions throughout the year.
Over 60 secondary schools and 1500 pupils have been playing netball in Lincolnshire as a result of the competition structure.
The 4 teams entered into the finals were Priory LSST, Stamford High, Caistor Grammar and QEGS Horncastle.
Priory LSST had the home advantage and beat QEGS Horncastle in one semi final, and Stamford High were victorious over Caistor Grammar in another semi final.
Priory LSSP and Stamford High then faced each other in the final, with Priory LSST winning.
Priory LSST U16 Team and Stamford High U16 Team will now represent Lincolnshire in the Regional Finals in January 2011.
Senior Competition Manager Tom Mapp, who is based at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said their success contradicts government’s assumptions.
“This seems to totally contradict the coalition government’s assumptions that competitive sport is ‘disappointingly low in schools’.
“Lincolnshire saw a record number of schools competing across a number of different sports and saw participation jump from below 27.0% in 2007 to 46.0% in 2010.
