Burglars on the prowl for Christmas

Warning: Police say burglars are on the prowl at this time of year and Lincoln residents need to be vigilant.

Lincolnshire Police say burglars are on the prowl at this time of year and Lincoln residents need to be vigilant.

The force is urging people to lock their doors and windows after a number of sneak-in burglaries. The warning comes after two incidents in Lincoln over the weekend.

Thieves got into a house in Chelmsford Street, Lincoln, through an unlocked back door at around 4pm on December 18. They stole a laptop, a coat and a boiler.

A thief also got into a house in Pennell Street, Lincoln, just after 5pm on December 17 through an unlocked window at the back of the property.

A laptop and a bottle of Jack Daniels were taken. It is not clear at this stage whether the two incidents are linked.

Officers are urging people to make sure their doors and windows are locked when they leave their properties and even when they are at home if they are upstairs, or in a different part of the house.

Police are also asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity in these areas to get in touch with them as soon as possible on 0300 111 0300.
