Village-fete comes to city centre

Village fete: A fun summer fete event will be raising money for local athletes this weekend.

A village-fete style event will be stopping at Lincoln’s City Centre on July 23 to help raise money.

Lincolnshire Sports Partnership is holding the event to raise money for the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme , which supports county athletes.

As well as being able to take part in some sports, there will be a cake stall and ice cream van, and a chance to win a huge tiger toy and doll.

LEAP Project Officer Rachel Belcher hopes it will raise awareness of the programme.

“We want to fund as many athletes as we can in Lincolnshire so we are trying to raise more money, to fund more athletes.

“Each year we donate almost £10,000 to 50 talented athletes, but this year we want to sponsor more athletes and donate more money.

“We also want to make sure that the general public know that we have potential Olympian and Paralympian athletes in our county, so many of the athletes will be there on the day taking part in various sports and activities.”

The fete will start at 9.30am outside Wilkinsons, finishing at 4.30.
