Lincoln ushers in art films

Film showing: The Usher Gallery will be showing a series of cutting-edge films by contemporary artists for free.

Calling all local art lovers, the Usher Gallery will be showing a series of cutting-edge films by contemporary artists for free.

Entitled Now Showing 2, the programme consists of new film and video works from the Arts Council Collection and is part of a UK-wide tour organised by London’s Hayward Gallery.

The event runs from 20 August to 2 October and is open to film buffs and beginners alike.

Film and video have emerged as increasingly important media for artists in the past decade, and there is a growing confidence in artists’ scope of reference.

Maggie Warren, Collections Access Assistant, said: “Now Showing 2 features a different projection each week for six weeks, forming a miniature film season.

“The idea is that visitors will keep coming back to see the latest film.

“The programme includes works by six artists and explores a broad range of approaches, giving an insight into some of the current concerns in film and the moving image.”
