Sorry Aunt Bessie, it’s going in the bin

Product recall: Aunt Bessie’s recall apple crumble sold in Lincoln due to plastic pieces on the top of the dessert.

Aunt Bessie’s have recalled a line of their products that have been sold in Lincoln’s Farmfood store off Tritton Road.

A danger of plastic contamination has been reported by the Food Standards Agency in Aunt Bessie’s Ltd Scrumptious Bramley Apple Crumble Family Size with a best before date of January 2013.

Small pieces of plastic may be on the top surface of the dessert which should not be consumed.

Customers are urged to dispose of this product if it was purchased after October 21 2011 and call Aunt Bessie’s customer helpline on 01482 223223 to arrange a full refund.

Farmfoods assure that the remaining crumbles have been removed from the freezers and disposed of and that no other Aunt Bessie products are known to be affected.

Notices have been placed on the checkouts at the store to warn customers of the defect and the shop is open as usual.

Aunt Bessie’s said in a statement: “We must stress that the possibility of a piece of plastic being found is highly unlikely.”

“We took the decision to be proactive and recall it as our customers’ safety is of greatest importance to us.

“We have identified the source of the problem and can assure customers that it was an isolated incident and only involved the product stocked at Farmfoods.”
