Increased security after Bishop’s Palace lead theft

Lead theft: Around 8ft by 8ft of lead were taken from the flat roof within The Bishop’s Palace.

Security has been increased at a historic Lincoln building after lead was stolen from its roof this week.

Around 8ft by 8ft of lead were taken from the flat roof within The Bishop’s Palace sometime between October 18 and 20.

“We are disappointed and saddened by the lead theft that took place at Lincoln Medieval Bishops’ Palace this week,” said an English Heritage spokesperson.

“We’re increasing security at the site and working with the police on their investigation,” the spokesperson told The Lincolnite.

“Lead theft is of great concern to us; there are rising cases of lead theft within the East Midlands and its one of the biggest threats to our heritage.”

Officers are appealing for anyone who has seen any suspicious activity in the area to get in touch with them and help them with their enquiries.
