Kebab raid An illegal Turkish immigrant was arrested during a UK Border Agency raid on a kebab shop in Lincoln city centre.

An illegal Turkish immigrant was arrested on Tuesday, September 11, during a UK Border Agency raid on a kebab shop in Lincoln city centre.

Acting on intelligence, officers paid an unannounced visit to Poppins Takeaway on Corporation Street at 6.45pm, supported by Lincolnshire Police officers.

As the officers were about to enter the takeaway, they spotted a man painting the outside of the kebab shop.

He was escorted into the shop for questioning but attempted to flee from the rear entrance where he was stopped by an officer that had already secured it.

Checks showed that the man was a Turkish national who had illegally entered the UK. He was arrested and taken into custody at Lincoln Police Station.

Action will now be taken to remove him from the UK as soon as possible.

Rachel Challis, from the UK Border Agency in Lincolnshire, said: “We are cracking down on immigration abuse across the county.

“Any foreign national who is in the UK illegally should be in no doubt that they will be found, arrested and removed from the country. And businesses that take on illegal workers face heavy fines and possible prosecution.”
