Data compiled by The Lincolnite shows that there are 25 restaurants, pubs and cafes in the Lincoln area with poor hygiene ratings.
There are more than 620 places with 5/5 hygiene rating (very good), representing the majority. 173 spots have 4/5, 81 have 3/5 (generally satisfactory) and 9 with 2/5 (improvement necessary).
For the Lincoln area, this list has three places with 0/5 rating (urgent improvement necessary) and 25 places with 1/5 rating (major improvement necessary).
A rating shows you how well the business is meeting the requirements of food hygiene law. It gives you an idea of what’s going on in the kitchen, or behind closed doors, so you can choose where you eat or buy food.
Most restaurants put their hygiene rating visible on the door or at the till, but businesses are not obliged to display their rating, as this is a voluntary scheme.
The latest ratings are compiled from data from the Food Standards Agency and City of Lincoln Council with additional data for locations on the outskirts of Lincoln from North Kesteven District Council and West Lindsey District Council.
Ratings from the local inspectors are updated on a monthly basis, though many places have maintained their poor ratings for several months. You can check for ratings of a particular business on the FSA website or via the FSA smartphone app for iPhone, Android and Windows 8.
