New skate park and play area opened at RAF Scampton

Skate and play: A new skate park and a newly refurbished play park have been officially opened at RAF Scampton this week.

A new skate park and a newly refurbished play park have been officially opened on Canberra Drive at RAF Scampton this week.

The project received £47,000 funding from the RAF Benevolent Fund Airplay Youth Support Project, and £70,000 from the Lincolnshire Armed Forces Community Covenant (LAFCC) scheme.

The Skate Park came about after Ben Huddlestone (11) and Ben Gibson (11), who are residents on the estate, wanted a local skate park rather than have to travel to Welton.

They wrote a letter to the Stn Cdr at RAF Scampton (Wg Cdr Richard Turner) requesting a Skate Park.

They also carried out a petition at their local school to gauge interest from their friends and peers.

The play park came about after extensive consultation with residents and service families on whether there was a need for a play park on the estate.

The work on both parks has been carried out by Lightmain Construction of Rotherham.
