Man arrested: Lincolnshire Police have launched a murder investigation after an elderly local woman has died in hospital.

Update on September 27 @ 2pm: A man has been charged with the murder of Betty Constable.

Lincolnshire Police have launched a murder investigation after a local woman has died.

A 79-year-old local woman was taken to Lincoln County Hospital at around 11am on Sunday, September 22, from her home address in Merleswyn, Dunholme, near Lincoln.

Lincolnshire Police named the woman as Betty Constable.

Hospital staff called police with concerns for the elderly woman, who later died in hospital at around 10am on Tuesday, September 24.

Officers carried out initial enquiries and a murder investigation was launched on Wednesday, Lincolnshire Police said in a statement.

On September 25 a 51-year-old man was arrested in the West Yorkshire area in relation to the investigation and is being questioned.

DCI Martin Holvey said: “I can confirm that a murder investigation has been launched and I would urge anyone with any information that they think might help us to get in touch as soon as possible.

“We are not seeking any other suspects in relation to this investigation and there is no threat to the community.

“I would urge any local residents with any concerns to discuss them with our local officers in the village.”
